SAMI Summer Course 2021 : IPB successfully invited students from various countries of the world

The Department of Management, Faculty of Economics and Management, IPB University held a Summer Course on Sustainable Agrifood Management in Indonesia (SAMI) which was held on September 14-24 2021. This activity is an annual activity that has been carried out since 2017. The Sustainable Agrifood Management in Indonesia (SAMI) course has the theme Response to Covid-19 for Sustainable Agriculture Transformation.

The Summer Course Sustainable Agrifood Management in Indonesia (SAMI) is also equipped with an Essay Contest activity. This activity is an opportunity for participants to express their ideas in the form of essays with the theme Sustainability and Resilience in Agrifood Systems. The theme is expected to motivate participants to better understand the topics discussed in the 2021 Sustainable Agrifood Management in Indonesia (SAMI) Summer Course program this time. In addition, the participants were also encouraged to design conclusions and solutions to the problems raised, especially in the field of Agrifood Systems.

The series of activities was opened on September 14, 2021, which was attended by the Dean of FEM IPB, Prof. Dr. Ir. R. Nunung Nuryartono; and the Vice Rector For International Affairs, Collaboration, and Alumni Relations, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dodik Ridho Nurrochmat, M.Sc. F.Trop.

On the occasion of his remarks, the Dean of FEM IPB said that the SAMI Summer Course 2021 activity was an event for students from various countries to exchange ideas and build relationships. In addition, the Dean of FEM IPB also stated that food safety, especially due to the Covid-19, is a very important issue to be resolved immediately, both for Indonesia, ASEAN, or even the world.

The next event was the official opening of the 2021 SAMI Summer Course as well as remarks by the the Vice Rector For International Affairs, Collaboration, and Alumni Relations. In addition to opening the 2021 SAMI Summer Course activities, on that occasion, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dodik Ridho Nurrochmat, M.Sc. F.Trop. said that the SAMI Summer Course 2021 this time took a very interesting and relevant theme with global developments and conditions that were affected by Covid-19. The choice of this theme is also expected to be a forum for identifying the challenges of conditions as well as finding solutions, especially in the fields of agrifood systems and agrifood management.

The opening series was then followed by a Program Report from the Chairman of SAMI Summer Course 2021, Lindawati Kartika, SE, M.Si who said that although this activity was held online, it did not close the enthusiasm of all parties involved with a total of up to 90 participants from 10 different countries, 20 webinar sessions, 6 quizzes, and Essay Contest implementation until the end of the activity. The chairman of the SAMI Summer Course 2021 also expressed his gratitude for all the enthusiasm from the participants, speakers, sponsors, and media partners who fought together to make the SAMI Summer Course 2021 activities successful.

After the opening series of the 2021 SAMI Summer Course was completed, the agenda continued with the delivery of material by Dewi Fatmaningrum, S.Gz., M.Gizi as a substitute for Dr. Ageng Herianto with the theme How COVID-19 Accelerated and Redesign The Future of Food in 2030 and Prof. Dr. Hermann Waibel with the theme How Resilient is the Agrifood Sector to the Global Pandemic.

In its fifth year, the SAMI Summer Course 2021 consists of 90 participants with 37 participants from Indonesia and 53 participants from outside Indonesia, such as the Philippines, India, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Nepal, to Nigeria. This SAMI Summer Course 2021 activity is sponsored by PT Perdagangan Perusahaan Indonesia, PT Pembangunan Jawa Bali, PT Paragon Technology and Inovation, PT Pegadaian, and BLST IPB. In addition, this activity also has various media partners such as Kompas.com, Kompas TV, Tribunnews, dan Kompasiana, dan Tempo.co.
