A. BACKGROUND
Bogor Agricultural University (Institut Pertanian Bogor/ IPB) is one of the fast growing university in Indonesia. Department of Management was established in 2000 as a part of Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM), Bogor Agricultural University to respond the growing demand of management competences in almost every sector of life. Department of Management – Bogor Agricultural University is one of reputable program which has started to focus its learning, research and other academic activities on the issues of managing Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and agrifood sector.
The Department of Management IPB had successfully held the 1st summer course in 2017 entitled “Management of Small and Medium Enterprises of Indonesia (MISSME)”. The course had involved 11 students, in cooperation with four lecturers from universities, namely Universiti Putra Malaysia, University of Hannover, and the University of Australia. Based on the success story of the 2017 summer course, we initiate to develop further the course to be the 2nd summer course with the theme “Sustainable Agrifood Management in Indonesia (SAMI 2018). This course aims to provide better understanding on sustainable agrifood management. Indonesia will be an interesting lesson learnt where the food demand is huge and growing up while food supply is confronted to many challenges, from climate changes, agricultural land conversion to disrupting new technologies.
B. COURSE INTRODUCTION
The SAMI 2018 summer course is designed as 10 days course with input from Bogor Agricultural University experts in collaboration with international universities and multinational food companies. Relevant issues in the field of sustainable agrifood management will be presented and discussed in the plenary presentations. Furthermore it gives participants the opportunity to practice team work in a sustainable agrifood management context.
This course has a multidisciplinary approach that integrates agricultural, animal, food and management science in a systematic manner. This approach allows us to comprehensively learn integrated agifood value chain from upstream to downstream and from farm to table. It will be very beneficial for anyone who are interested to: (a) better understand agrifood management in tropical and developing countries, (b) enrich and explore international experiences, and (c) build global networks among participants accross different countries. Participants will have the opportunity to meet professionals from different fields. They will provide in-depth analysis on sustainable agrifood management topics as well as on further career opportunities in the field.
C. REQUIREMENTS PARTICIPANTS
The target of participants consists of academia, researchers, students and graduate students, policy makers, business and NGOs. Participants will learn from lecture, discussion, games simulation, field trips, and our research findings.
Applicants
The Applicants are categorized into two groups:
Institutional Applicants
1. One group consist of at least 3 persons
2. The applications are coordinated by university/International Relations office/Faculty/ Department/Unit/Etc. of the Home country
Individual Applicants
1. The applicants can apply by themselves as individual applicants
2. The participants of individual applicants are limited 20 persons.
The requirements are:
1. Copy of passport
2. Recommendation letter from university/International Relations office/ Faculty/ Department/ Unit/ Etc. of the home country
3. Completing the SAMI 2018 on-line application form at https://www.manajemen.fem.ipb.ac.id/
4. It is highly recommended to have an international health insurance for administration purposes.
D. LEARNING OUTCOMES
After completing this summer course, participants are expected to:
1. Be able to understand and explain sustainable agrifood management concepts and applications from upstream to downstream
2. Be able to identify and analyze potential and challenges of agrifood management in Indonesia through various case studies
3. Be able to communicate ideas on applying sustainable agrifood management practices
4. Have critical and creative thinking in problem solving on agrifood management
5. Be able to collaborate on multicultural platform and build global network on agrifood management
There will be 12 class room lectures and discussions, 12 field trips including agrifood culinary and edu-eco tourism, 1 project assignment and 2 presentation sessions. This course equals to 4 credits.

F. REGISTRATION FOR SAMI SUMMER COURSE 2018
The costs for the programme are $600 per participant, including accommodation, lunches and dinners. SAMI 2018 also offers scholarship opportunity for 10 participants. Fellowship participants will be selected based on background, motivation and assigned 3-4 pages paper on agrifood management in their own countries. For fellowship participants, the payment become a deposit that will be returned to them when they attend in this event. The selection of participants is an ongoing process. It is to your advantage to apply early. The maximum number of participants is 25. Application opens as from April 20th up to July 10th , 2018. Participants who register before May 16th will get lower price, i.e $ 500.

F. REGISTRATION FOR SAMI SUMMER COURSE 2018
The costs for the programme are $600 per participant, including accommodation, lunches and dinners. SAMI 2018 also offers scholarship opportunity for 10 participants. Fellowship participants will be selected based on background, motivation and assigned 3-4 pages paper on agrifood management in their own countries. For fellowship participants, the payment become a deposit that will be returned to them when they attend in this event. The selection of participants is an ongoing process. It is to your advantage to apply early. The maximum number of participants is 25. Application opens as from April 20th up to July 10th , 2018. Participants who register before May 16th will get lower price, i.e $ 500.
